yeah, i've always been torn about this company. the product is great but I think the price is high and they have a very antiquated licensing method that can day multiple days to license the software; if you install license it on friday, after their office is closed, you won't get your license until monday at the earliest..wtf. I hope they changed that for v5.

ok, looks like they fixed the licensing issue, so at least that's good. via their FAQ:
"Installing HDR Light Studio 4 licenses was painful and slow, has this changed?
Yes, we have made this much, much easier on our new website. We understand buying and installing licenses must be really easy. It now is. Software is licensed instantly 24/7 via activation codes provided at purchase time."

Is there a Maxwell plug-in we need to use HDR Light Studio 5? Will it still work with Maxwell?
It looks like the product comes with it's own rendering engine now so perhaps they should make a version available at a lower cost that is strictly a plug-in for getting their light settings in to Maxwell Studio.

Hi Steve,
You will have to buy a "connection" to use HLS5 with Maxwell Studio:

Or you can just use the standalone HLS5 and create your lighting export it and then just use
the map in the IBL channels.

maxwell connection ? i tried the version 5 and from maxwell studio i choose : hdr light studio and it work fine

Sorry I missed this thread, too many forums to keep on top of.
Lightmap and Next Limit are working together to ensure HDR Light Studio 5 works with Maxwell Studio very soon.
If anyone is interested in testing out the intergration before release, drop me a line at:

Seggy has the new code for the Maxwell render Studio plugin changed to not include support for V4 users? Since the 3.2 Beta V4 has not worked at all for me.
I hope its an oversight within the Beta versions of 3.2
