Great price but only supports 30Hz at 4k... good sign for the future though

Yes right, I hope so. And I cannot have confidence 'seiki'. Anyone knew this company?

This one is announced as 'TV'. So i don't think it is suitable as workstation monitor... but we'll see

Technical features are getting very close between TVs and monitors lately although I don't think they care much about color precision on a TV (nor on some monitors also

)

I used to distrust the new, unpopular monitor brands until I bought two different monitors from AOC, both of which are outstanding. I think these "no-name" brands are rapidly approaching, and probably exceeding, the quality of the big-name competitors.

90% of all LCD panels in the world are made by four companies

So the differences, if a cheaper monitor uses the same panel as a more expensive one with a different brand, is in the control electronics (if you set it to 5200K, it should display 5200K, screen should be evenly lit etc.), quality control (more expensive ones get the best screens from the production line, and they test them more), connectivity. I still think it's more of a gamble going with a cheaper one, but if you just compare panels you can get lucky.

very true, and the more expensive a display is the more the secondary aspects matter.especially quality control,warranty and service. If i pay 4k€ for a screen and it stops working correctly after 2 years, it cost me 220€ a month!!.. now check the warranties on these new panels.. all 2years maximum. they are afraid
not even eizo gives more than 2 years on their 4k (costs as much as a house)

this worries me a little, my sony 24" crt lasted almost 9 years, i doubt these screens can deliver like that yet.
