i bought a 8core dual xeon workstation in january 2008 for 3200$..scrap that..it was 2800$.
4.5 years later i should be able to buy a machine that is 6 times faster for the same price.
(okay, the transistor density should be 6 times higher - not necessarily the performance)
all i get is a 16 core dual xeon for roughly 4-5k that is maybe twice as fast.
i upgraded my machine to 20 gigs of ram and added a new graphics card a year ago - with this the machine is good for another 2-3 years i guess, because other than maxwell very few programs actually use all the cores available.
i don't know why i made this post.
