I've been expecting a collapse of rendering applications for a little while now since the recent explosive expansion is not sustainable long term -- now we know that Octane will definitely be one of the ones left standing when the dust settles (at least in some form).
Best,
Jason.

Ouch! this is bad news

but what else should one expect when Autodesk is on the move.
When reading that they seem to put a lot of faith into cloudbased rendering, but there is no certainty that the cloud will be the future. Unless they manage to pull something off similar to what SETI and similar projects is, which i doubt.

Autodesk on a shopping tour. First T-Splines, now Octane. What's next?

I hope not Substance Designer... it makes sense for them, but I would be less than enthused.
Best,
Jason.

today they said on their forum that Autodesk has nothing to do with this, the new company would be only developing cloud services for Autodesk too... but we'll see...

Refractive and Otoy has merged, that's all. Otoy only develops cloud stuff for Autodesk, so I'm not to concerned
