Sorry for posting this here, it is not a Maxwell problem but I am sure that I can get some help...
My PC is an i7 8Gb RAM and a 9500GT Nvidia. Win74 fully updated. Max design 2012 and Maxwell last update (program and plugins).
Max doesn't work with DirectX. OpenGL is way too slow and Nitrous is not exactly nice to see.
Everything is black! Not only maxwell mats but all objects... When I make a plane for example, I can see that the color is red (the red little rectangle on the right) but it shows black! Everything shows black!
I have a deadline and I have already lied to this customer that most of the work has been done!
Please help... any ideas would be really appreciated...

First, the most obvious:

Reinstall Max.

Upgate graphics driver.

Test Max without the Maxwell (or any plugs) to see if it's a plugin problem.

OK!!! I don't know what changed this time... maybe because I closed Panda Antivirus... Everything is OK!!!

JTB the same black shader presentation in the viewports were happening to me, I have since switched from nitrous to Direct X and updated my drivers - nvidia 9800 gtx+, and everything now seems to be fine after restarting max. Does anyone know if the plugin is supposed to be working with nitrous enabled viewports or only direct x enabled?

DirectX was the problem.... using directX made everything black... I have no problems now, after my last (4th) reinstallation.

I thought Nitrous wasn't supported yet.
