Major advantage of Intuos line over lesser models in the ability to use multiple specialty pens (which also work on the Cintiq line) -- if this isn't an issue for you then the newest bamboo would be a better option.

Best,
Jason.

I will be using it to create textures mainly. SO i presume the bamboo will do a decent job for me.

Is the bamboo sensitivity less than the intuos?

Truthfully anything over 512 levels will be more than enough -- to put it into perspective there are only 256 shades of grey in a 8-bit greyscale image, which is equivalent to each color channel (which can be perfectly photographic to the naked eye)... so if you map pressure to opacity you get 2 levels of sensitivity for each possible shade of grey (which is redundant).

It's marketing mostly -- the differences being so slight as to be pointless for most users (I own an Intuos 3 BTW, but for the Artpen which isn't even supported on the Intuos 2 which is 2 versions behind current).

I've owned an Intuos, Intuos 3, Cintiq, and Graphire... for drawing/painting they were pretty much all interchangeable.

In my experience most people who take up a tablet for the first time do not have a very sensitive touch -- those extra levels of sensitivity are for people who have used real brushes for years and want to get a similar sensitivity... most people use the tablet more like a pencil.

Best,
Jason.

I agree with the bamboo suggestion...Half Life did a very good job in his suggestion and explination.

My personal experience... I used an Intuos 2 at work for around 4 years. After I quit, I bought a bamboo at home and actually prefer that to the intuos because of the small size. Having the smaller workspace on the tablet seems to work better for me when it comes to painting textures and masks etc. Based on what you said you are using it for, I would suggest the bamboo also.

Once again, thanks. I have decided on the bamboo definitely.
