3D People

Hi,

Could someone give me a few links to sites for 3D people that can be imported straight into Maxwell with textures? And what format is best? I know of Turbosquid so far (or that's what the client wants to use).

I use Solidworks so can't do any clothing texturing.

Thaaaanks!

I think AXYZ had their 3d people in Maxwell format... Well, at least some of them...

Will OBJ work though?

Wait... maybe what I remember is that they just had Maxwell materials applied... but you should check... they are really good 3d people.

If you need to get the people in Solidworks there are some cad people sold on this site, but like you said Solidworks will be tough to texture. http://www.cadhuman.com/ If you want them pretextured and go straight into studio as obj that could be tricky. You might be better finding the textured people for max or cinema 4d and run them through the maxwell plugin for those applications to have the textures come into studio easily. If you dont have those programs you could just get the trials if you only need to do it for this one project.

It looks like Richard had some luck with the AXYZ people a few years back so you may want to PM him. He is a regular on the maxwell forum http://www.pushpullbar.com/forums/showt ... at-support!

Yeah I think I might have done that before. Somehow I rendered an image a few years ago with a 3D textured human so I think I probably opened it in C4D. Thanks for jogging my not very good memory, I'll try it again this time.

Is Maxwell not backwards compatible? I've saved out the character Studio file from Modo (using the 2.5 plugin) but it wont open in Maxwell 2.0 - no objects are showing.

Yeah, no backwards compatibility... sorry.

So can I install 2.0 and 2.5 on the same machine, or do I have to upgrade?

Funny you should ask -- I got a tip to this effect from JD:
Maxwell is totally portable, relying solely on the MAXWELL2_ROOT environment variable to know where things are located. So, when you install new versions, it’s pretty easy to first create a folder named for the version you’re on, drag the .exe & .dll files from your existing install, and then run the new/patch installer. Then, to swap between version, you just drag things in and out of your Maxwell 2 folder.
But I'm not sure what you would do with having both installed since you can only go forward with assets.

Best,
Jason.

Is is that unusual that an older version can't open files from a newer version? Any special reason why you are running 2.0?

I don't know... I suppose not with regards to other software.

No idea why I was still running 2.0 but I have updated in lightning fast speed with no problems. I hope the plugins still work with Solidworks 2008.
