My old 4870 is pretty died. I'm planning to buy a "new" one and I need your suggestions for use it in maxwell (I'm thinking of GPU rendering...) I have 2 choices:
1. A used Ati 4870 Vapor-x 2gb
2. A new Ati 5770 1gb
3. .......
As you may see my budget is around 100-150€
Really thanks!

No GPU rendering in Maxwell. CPU only, so far.

i see you have (or had) your 4870 softpatched to FirePro... you can do this with the HD5xxx too.
I've recently bought a HD5770 (140€) and plan to patch it to a FirePro v5800. I didn't want to spend more money atm. because the HD6xxx cards will be released within the next months (
http://vr-zone.com/articles/-rumour-amd ... /9772.html ) and since my system is watercooled i don't want to buy a new water block for it for only a few months... the 5770 stays relatively cool and quiet

Are you sure that the 5770 can be firemodded? I was looking to this information at guru3d but with no luck!

I would go for a nvidia 9800GT or a nvidia GTS250. The former around 100€ and the latter around 130€ and will perform better on CAD (256 bits on memory bus).

yes, there are different statement on this topic over there, but i tink it should be possible. The 10bit display output seems to be a problem, but the viewport speed up seems to be possible. I will test it

...i'm building my machine these days and maybe next week or so i'll try the softmod.

@numerobis: I'll wait for your test don't forget to put the results here! Really thanks
@ Fernando: I don't know the GTS250 very well. Which test I've to look to chose? Regards!

You can get a GTS 470 card for a little bit more now, i paid about 230 euro for mine and it has 1,2gb ram on it. Fast as hell is the card in all the apps and games i tested it so far.

aaargh...it's sooo difficult!
I've read that the difference from nvidia gaming cards and quadro is related to the processor frequency (the quadro don't have this dependence).

really confused!
