I just got an e-mail from newegg saying these are available now. That really is a good price for a chip like that. Maybe intel will have to drop their price on the 6core gulftown now.

That's a great price, especially compared with the i7 6-core. I wonder if the price:performance ratio makes it a better deal?

Huh?

Is that excel document saying that this chip performs the same as an intel i7 930 quad core. I dont see how thats possible. It would be nice to see some real benchmarks. All I could find was this and they are saying it comes in between the i7 860 and I7 965extreme.

compare the phenom x4 results... they are way behind the i7's. so why should this be different for the x6?!? they have nearly the same architecture.

Otherwise that price would be too suspicious.
BTW, that test was run under stock clocks, that means 2,8/3,06 on i7-930 vs 3,2/3,6 on X6.

I sure wish AMD would provide better competition for Intel in the form of processor performance regardless of price. Intel has taken the lead since the Core2 architecture. Before that, AMD's dual core actually outperformed Intel's best dual core, probably because of the direct connect architecture. Competition is good for progress, but now AMD's idea of competition seems to be based on price point only and not high performance.
