Best Anti Virus and trojan remover?

I am looking for the best Anti Virus program, which if at all possible is also not very intrusive.

I have tried Norton Anti Virus and it really seemed to slow my machine down.

I think I may have a Trojan Backdoor virus, and need to get rid as soon as possible.

A very good thing to start with is to scan your PC using CureIt!:
It's free and it's very effective.

I strongly suggest to scan with MBAM first;

and additionally use Avast Antivirus:

thanx tom! found a trojan and a registry key virus with mbam that kaspersky and avast could not find.

EDIT: oh! the registry thingy seems like a false positive on vista 64 bit systems:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoActiveDesktopChanges

i deleted it before i read it's a false positive - so fuck it

MBAM keeps freezing after less than 10 seconds!

Very frustrating

Open a cmd.exe and run these:

netstat -a (that'll show active connections)

netstat -b ( that'll show the executable responsible for the connection )

You could try:

- Panda ActiveScan,
- Antivir http://www.free-av.com/ (which I find too picky for having it always on but works fine for these situations)
- Open task manager and start closing processes (owned by your user only); eventually you will close something that will restart by itself (some windows processes normally do this but viruses do so too); don't touch lsass.exe. This can give you information about the what kind of virus is it.
- Start > Run > msconfig Look for odd processes on Start tab. Those are the ones that launch at start time. A virus will probably re-check its box by itself when closing down but that let's you track where it is located and which is it. You can turn on again what you want so don't be afraid to try.
- After nailing the virus you can do some searches in internet to gather more information about it; if you think a specific file could be the virus try renaming before deleting.
- If you manage to make the virus not launch on boot try with antiviruses again (which will finally do the cleaning).

I'm using Kaspersky internet security and satisfied with it.
It's somewhat heavy and slower the machine but it's all-in-one package and not so expensive in here.
