So I got an e-mail this morning from my mom that says:

(you can skip reading it is just the typical scam)
I am in hurry writing this mail to you,I am sorry for not informing you about my trip .I am in some terrible situation and I'm really going to need your urgent help.I had traveled to United Kingdom yesterday to visit a new Researchers' Complex in Manchester, Unfortunately for me all my money ,diaries and my return ticket was stolen at the hotel where i lodged, I am so confused right now, I don't know what to do or where to go,I didn't bring my phone here and the hotel telephone line's was burnt during the robbery incident,so i have access to only emails.I am full of panic now,the police only asked me to write a statement about the incident and directed me to the embassy,i have spoken to the embassy here but they are not responding to the matter effectively,Please i want you to lend me a sum of 1,080 pounds which is $1,850 USD today, just to clear my Hotel bills and get the next plane home, I shall have your money reimbursed immediately on my return.I want you to send it via western union outlet so i can receive it with my passport.

Get back to me as soon as possible if you wish you can lend me the money so that i can forward you the details you will need to send me the money via western union money transfer.

I will be looking forward to read from you
I called my mom and she said that she got something that said that Yahoo was about to close her e-mail address because they had too many email address and they needed to confirm that she was indeed using her e-mail address. So she typed in her e-mail and pass :?

Now, she has emailed every customer of her business with that crap and can't access her own email anymore (douh!)

What can she do to fix the problem? would she be able to get her e-mail address back?... she is calling all her customers right now

This has to be handled through Yahoo to be the most effective.

One, .. they can stop those emails, ... two, ...they could re-assign a new password and that would enable your mom to send a global email that would explain this nonsense.

As far as actually keeping the email, .. I would think you could once you/she regained control of it ...

ps. Leo your supposed to hip your mom to this kind of thing way in advance. --- Never assume. Shame ! lol..

So you don't have the address book anywhere else ???

Wow, this sounds serious... I better send that poor guy some money.

(Yes, I'd say sorting this through Yahoo is the best way to go about fixing it. I think your mum phoning her customers is a good and personal way to describe what's happened - bit of a hassle though I imagine! Hope it all works out.)

UPDATE many of the younger people from her contact list contacted my mom to let her know about the scam... but 3 older women were actually in the process of sending her money!!

I'm glad she acted fast :D . She was able to get inside her email account again and changer her password. I suggested her to check all the emails from the inbox and "sent" folder to see who actually responded to the scammer
