Other software houses' price policies....

I need your help because i can't find one single valid reason why to get a Photoshop license here in Italy i have to pay something like 1250$+VAT while if lived in the USA i would pay 699$
When i got my first license i wasn't aware of this, but now that i have to get a second one i am simply astonished...
Do they send the hardcopies one by one carried by travelling pigeons? Or maybe their religion forces them to let them travel around the world 3 times before they can send it to your address?
Please, tell me the reason is different from a simple, cinic and greedy handling of an almost monopolistic position...

There are alternatives to Photoshop. There's no better way to demonstrate your disdain than to use a competitor's product (and write a letter/email). It's your right.

Yes, try GIMP, it is opensource and there is a shell (gimpshop) that makes it look a lot like photoshop.
Also, have a look at www.serif.com some great apps there...

I'll definitly move to Gimp my friends, thanks for the hint.
It was some time since when i started to think about it, but now i think i found the decisive reason to dive into the opensource
...but the mail informing them that i moved had been already sent

Update: just phoned Adobe, and i got a nice surprise, since they state that i can LEGALLY get a license wherever i want on the planet and use it wherever i need.
So the fact that such a move would be illegal seems to be almost an urban legend, or at least something that is not valid anymore.
The only limitations are that from that moment on i'll have to refer to the Assistance of the country where i got the software...far worth 400€, anyway!
But you know, there are fractures that cannot be fixed, and i am finding all the alternatives you suggested quite intriguing... 8)

Nextlimit does not allow the reseller to sell it in $ to somebody not living in the U.S.
You'd always have to pay the euro price if you're not living there, I asked ...

Another vote for Gimp......been using it a while now & it does everything I need.......no more Adobe slavery!

Newtek [LW] was always priced fairly IMHO, but the move to LWcore has come with a yearly renewable licensing scheme that is pure madness........so my wallet is shut & I'm busy learning Blender here in downtime.

Except CMYK and it's the only thing preventing me doing the same.

I'm purely an RGB guy now :D I've devolved responsibility for conversion as a matter of policy. 8)
