My question is what dpi and resolution do you recommend?
Your help once again would be greatly appreciated.

At that size, dpi largely depends on the viewing distance.........where's it going to be, and how close do humans get to it?

I have been told by the client that the images will be on 6 ft by 4ft hoardings seen by passing traffic. So I presume nobody will be getting too close to the images.
What's you rule of thumb on this? Dpi and resolution.

I rendered a picture with 6000x3000px to fit 2m x 1m. It looks beautyful and very crisp. It was a cartoony poster for my son.

But Finalrender not Maxwell.
You could render out a region and print it out so you see how it works out.

Man, for that your res can be way low..........you're in luck.
You could happily print that at 36dpi & it would look totally fine, at 6ft that gives a width dim of 2592 pixels.
72dpi would be 5184x3456 and might be the preferred choice if you've the luxury of time.
Best,
Stu

Realistically, if you have a tight render (or digital pic) and it's roughly 20X24" at 300 DPI you can print pretty much anything you need with it. I cap out file sizes at around that because they become too cumbersome to work with for anything but the most mechanical of tasks. Render it at 6-7K and let the enlargement happen at the film/plate stage. It will be fine in my experience.
