200+ cores anyone?

I almost posted this in the main maxwell forum... but since I've brought this up a few times already, and generally get royally ignored, I thought I would put it here.

Now NextLimit has established a strong reputation for producing very efficient parallel programming (using 8 cores and hyperthreading on the new chips for example)... so I'm baffled as to why they would not take a deep hard look at this. Unless of course they are playing stealth, and will release something with V2...

I read the article and followed a link to ATI's Radeon 4870 X2. These cards are looking pretty interesting but are they suited for what we do? They seem to be aimed at gamers and I wondering if that's the same processing as our rendering?

I am looking for a graphics card and the 4870 is around $400 and change. I was hoping to hold it at $500 or so and that looks good.
