Hey everyone, we just picked up a used d80 with a 24-120mm lens on it for a really good price. I was wondering if anyone had any affordable lens recommendations for every day shooting as well as a macro lens.

Thanks
Jason

I use this with my D80...very nice but a little heavy.

a 24-120 sounds like a good "every day lens" to me ...
what are you planning on shooting with it? ;)

Kami - Well the lens I have isn't a vr lens or anything special for that matter. Just want something a little nicer for night time shots, etc....

Thanks for the link Onslaught. I've heard bad things about Sigma lenses, what's the ups and downs that you can share?

Nothing bad as far as I've used mine. I'm really not a pro. It only goes down to F4.5 so I just compensate by adjusting the shutter and iso.

It's heavy, especially when connected to the camera...........heavier when you connect the flash.................heaviest when you connect the battery pack....he he he :) but that's just my set up.

Safari West
Monster Jam
Tour of California
NASCAR

All taken with the SIGMA lens.

I have the 24-120 on my old film F100 and it was perfect for film.

I then bought a D200 and a 12-24 f4 DX lens so the 24-120 was a nice addition.

If however you only need one lens, IMHO your best bet is the 18-200

Huge zoom range, VR and pretty decent optics.

My 2 cents

I agree, nothing is a better all-around lens than the 18-200. However its is not cheap. I have an 18-105 that came with my d90, but I am definately considering selling to buy the 18-200.

Ritz camera is going out of business out here, so I went to check out what they had and all of their lenses were 20% off. I'm going to pick up a 70-300mm vr lens as well as the 50mm 1.4 lens today. So, that should keep me content for a while.

Good choice of lenses. I have the 50mm too but it's a f1.8.
