What's the best HDR resize tool?

I've noticed when resizing a 32bit image in CS2, it creates artifacts around highlighted edges/objects. Does anyone know of any good image resize tool that works well with very large hdri's?

Bubba,

Try the free HDR tool from Christen Blochi, Picturenaut.

http://www.hdrlabs.com/picturenaut/index.html

Or there is the commercial Artizen HDR. But I like Picturenaut, a very simple but power program, and it's free.

Cheers, Ron

Edit: Oops, Ron beat me to it :)

I didn't know maxwell could resize images.
Or do you mean setting up an orthogonal cam & plane and rendering it to the desired res?

Btw I'm liking these sIBL tools that were posted in the pfstools thread!

There are a lot of links to free and lowcost hdr viewing and editing applications on the hdrtools site.
You might find what you're looking for over there ;)

Yeah I figured that out browsing his site last night.

I have the original german PDF printed out sitting inside my desk for a while now.

Looking at the new English version though makes me wanna press the money button hehe

Doesn't this take far too long considering maxwells rendertimes?

I mean its cool for interpolating up with high quality but I would guess a hdr editor would need less than 1 minute to scale a hdr depending on the machine.

Picturenaut will not handle the large hdri's I am trying. It must be a 32 bit app and only use 2 Gb max...

@jorisMx

sure! ..it is more the swiss knife solution..

@bubbaloo:

i was just thinking that.. your post just came in 2sec early :wink:
although when Bubbaloo speaks of very large.. it has to be a solid piece of software to handle it :D

What size HDR's are you working with? I was just playing around with 500+ MB at 10K...and Picturenaut didn't even blink.

I don't know if it's 32 bit though....

Oh well...

The one I was testing it with was 10k and +/- 500 MB also. It opened it, but crashed when I tried to resize it. It wouldn't even open a 15k hdri.

Yeah, I agree, it is time for these programs to go 64 bits. 8)

ps in cs4 is 64bit..

cs2 only had very basic hdr support, should be better by now.
