Could you guys just chime in and critique this style of photography site ?

http://www.maxwellfoto.com/

The name is purely coincidental -- it's a friends site and I'd like to get him some hard core perspective.

thx.

Comments on the work would be fine too......

WOW! That is absolutely awesome! The only thing I find a little distracting is the aliasing that becomes especially appearant when hovering over the thumbnais. Else, brilliant!

Added: Playing around with it a little more I just noticed maybe it would be more intuitive if, when zoomed in on a pic and moving the mouse ready to click a neighbouring image, the tilt should be in the opposite direction to what it is now. At the moment, you cannot really see which photo you'll be seeing up next. But you can see the one that's far away from you...

Interesting concept, but personally i wouldn't enjoy browsing such a gallery. The constant tilt of perspective irritates me, more than it appeals.

I find it quite dizzying..it never sits still and constant movement on a website bothers me unless it's slow and subtle. This seems a bit jerky and when you mouse off of the page you get strange motion as well.

Interesting idea! I think it works very well for the head shots, it seems to make the image more alive, almost like a holographic effect. For the other images it's less suited but I don't find it annoying.

Hello,

apealling gallery, is it home-made? I think I already saw it this navigation system..

If possible it might be nice to make the tilting more subtile or slow because it can disturb from the content.. Also, it lacks a title or more info, it could help to structure the page composition !

...and congrats to your friend, interesting photos !

Says, cool, hip, on the edge...The site itself is fun and interesting and the programmer pulls it off very well. But they could have put the evening news up as images because it's more a performance art piece in web building than a showcase for the photographer. It's not quit annoying but very close to it.

When acting as an art buyer looking at a shooter's work I am more interested in seeing the body of work and not so much in being wowed by it's presentation. That's my art director's job...I prefer a clean, professional, presentation that immediately focuses my attention on the shooter's art and skill.

cool.. personally i don't find it annoying.. navigation is easy. and when you keep the mouse still image stays still too.
Like Mihai said the "holographic" effect is nice.. makes me look at pictures longer than i would elsewise
maybe zooming in is too limited and the aliasing is a bit disturbing..

btw. i watched it fluently on an athlon with 1600mhz and 64mb geforce fx 5200 (4 years old)
