Quite some time ago already Nvidia released videos of realtime-rendered human head http://nzone.com/object/nzone_humanhead_downloads.html
Does anybody know a little bit more about this?
What render-engine was used - is this Gelato?
Was this rendered after a scan or is that a UV-mapped polygon-model?
Maybe there is also an article about the making of somewhere but I couldn't find it thus far. Thanks for any input!

NVIDIA's GeForce 8800 Ultra demo "Human Head" uses a new sum-of-Guassians formulation of subsurface scattering within a multi-layered skin model coupled to deliver a startling leap forward in realism for real-time characters. "Human Head" computes 17 off-screen textures every frame totaling over 40 Million pixels, each shaded with lengthy pixel shaders That amounts to 1.2 billion pixels every second! Ultra high resolution 4096 x 4096 color and normal textures provide photo-realistic detail even at extremely close ranges."

You can download it and try it yourself from here if you have a relatively new Geforce card. It works great on mine, a 8800 GTS 640mb.
