I'm on it
also very good news for solid works users
Indeed it is great to see you here! Bring more 360 users on over. :)
Great news. We have an official cross license to the Solidworks loader for 401. We'll be demonstrating this workflow at SW WOrld next week. Will you be there?

Sculptable hair, i had secretly hoped for that. It was a logical progression when they announced fur, but i wasn't sure they had the skills to make it happen.

Looks very interesting!. I have a question for you guys that knows both Modo and Cinema, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using modo instead of cinema? Maybe the workflow, or something else?.

Thanks in advance for any info,

José

Just wonder to see how the faces of the guys at Newtek look like today...it has been cruel to show such an elegant presentation right the day after their crappy core reveal event...
i know i'm childish but some cheering sometimes is fun!

About disadvantages and advantages.. the disadvantages Modo would have compared to Cinema4D would be that it's not yet a fully featured application so you can't do everything in it yet, however this may change now with Modo 401. We'll see what more features this release will have when Luxology reveals them.

One advantage of Modo is that it has a much lower price than Cinema4D has, so it's easier on your wallet which is always a good thing. And they give you fast and good help on the forum if you need that. You can write your own script for anything in Modo and that helps when you work, it supports instances and sss and displacement and renders at impressive speeds. But personally i am not very pleased with the materialtree in Modo, this is something i hope they have improved and made more userfriendly.

Cinema4D is a rockstable solid application with tons of real nice features and stuff in it. As it sells as modules the cost will increase quite a bit depending on which extra modules you want for it. C4D has a huge usercommunity and it's a friendly helpful one. Plugins and external renderers exists in all flavours so you can pick whichever one you like to use. All of them are well integrated into C4D.

Modeling is definately easier in Modo, i can't say the same about Cinema4D's modeling tools. However they're still usable.

There's much more to say but my fingers can't take writing much more at the moment. :) sorry

Thanks Max!, I was waiting for your opinion  . Yeah, the price is a thing to bear in mind. There are two things I love of cinema, mograph and hair, but now seems like modo is at least at the same level with the new features.
I will be alert at Modo's web!

Time to go to bed, don´t sleep Max?

I might add that Modo isn't stable for some people. Demo it before you make a decision.

Thanks Adrian. What do you mean by Modo isn't stable for some people? crash with heavy scenes? or depend if you are on mac or windows?
I've looking a few tutos, and I must say I'm really amazed by Modo's modeling and snap tools.
Also, do you know if Modo 401 will be 64 bit?

Thanks in advance,

José

A bit of general instability, though the UVing function seems to be particular prone to crashing.

But this doesn't apply for everyone. There are users who report no instability what so ever. I don't know if it's related to one's hardware configuration.

I see, thanks. I will test before buy, but I'm seriously considering to purchase. They have a very affordable student license(similar to Rhino).
Adrian, do you use Modo in a daily use?, If yes, are you happy? and what are the things you miss within Modo than force you to use another app?.

Thanks in advance

I use it daily and i have to admit it's unstable in certain situations. You just have to save frequently, because in my case it seems to be widely related with a too long history.
Or with too heavy operations since when i accidentaly ask to merge a trillion points, or to subdivide further an already dense mesh.
You just have to get used to and then you will enjoy a great software, friendly and smooth, with a wide set of tools and setup that allow you to model easily, efficiently and instinctively.
And the great thing is that the further you consolidate your experience the wider becomes the set of tools you use, meaning that with only a bunch of them (polygon and edge bevel and extrude, smooth shift, extend) you will be alredy productive, flanking them proceeding with your learning with the more advanced ones.
You will have fun, i am sure!

^ What Mattia said. Modo has a lot of shortcuts to work fast, and left or middle click do different things with the same tool for example (reset, repeat). If you click the wrong one and repeat something like e.g subdivision, you might be in for a long wait (or a crash) :)

Ok guys, I'm convinced! I will test seriously Modo and will see what are my feelings.

Thanks a lot for your advices,
