Has anyone seen this. I looked through the forum, but could not find any mention of it. http://www.david-laserscanner.com/ My coworker just starting messing with it this morning and has already gotten a rough 3d scan from it. It looks like there might be potential there from the examples that are shown.

I hope you can post some screenshots from his results or even a mesh. Digitizing real shapes sure fascinates me.

Ok I set up a test last night. Was up to about 2 in the morning. Early results look very promising. Wow! I will post some screen shots once I put the little one to bed tonight.

Ok I tried it out this weekend. My first tests look very promising. Im not getting what this guy is getting, but then again I am not using an $800.00 camera and $100.00 laser like he has. http://www.david-laserscanner.com/forum ... ght=figure

Herve I see you in the David Forum. I will be signing up soon. Let me know if you give it a try and any tips you have.

Here is the setup I threw together with the 640x480 15fps webcam I have at home and a laser line we had laying around here in the office.

Not bad for the price, and I am hoping if I can get a better camera and laser I will be in good shape to get really detailed scans. After testing the auto align of the built in David software I went ahead and spent the $260.00 for the pro version that lets you save high resolution scans and gives you the shapefusion software that helps merge the scans. I tried using the free route with meshlab to merge the scans, but was very tedious compared to david scan shapefusion software that comes with pro license.

I am thinking to upgrade my webcam to this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... %20Pro9000

it can go up to 1600x1200 , but fps drop. I read on the david forum that it will do 960x720 @ 15fps

that has to be the cleanest work space i have ever seen... pig looks cool. i'd like to see something with more detail scanned using the same setup.

i would keep an eye on the obsessive compulsive spending habits..... speaking from my own experience :)

Thanks Eric.. yes I've seen that one.. pretty good if you ask me.. I was just wondering about textures.. I have not see many textured objects at the moment..

I tried this a year or so ago, and textured objects were't really an issue but their glossiness was, because that makes it much harder to pick up the laser line correctly.

how about taking the texture first.. then powdering the glossy object prior to scan it...?

Is that your house??? I wounder what your wife thinks of your little toys.

I know, if I walk in a house and they have a setup like that in their living room............my first reaction would be: WTF!!!!
