I'm just tired trying to help them over the phone!!
They just got back their pc... it has no antivirus or any of their programs... Hell I just made a video to show them how to map a network harddrive, but I don't even know if they can follow that tutorial
I'm not sure how they are called, but I know there are few programs out there that allows you to control a pc remote-control... does anyone have any experience with them???

Hello Leo
it's seems what you need is VNC, it's free and allows to remote control a computer from internet. I have no personnal experience with it but there are a lot of tutorials !
It must be more comforable than explaning by phone !!

Win XP has its own "Remote desktop" feature. It must be enabled, then it works fine. VNC is also pretty good tool.
In both cases - do not forget to switch it off after you finish with setup. Things like this are a big security hole to a system...

VNC is indeed your best bet.

hi guys... I end up using
www.logMeIn.com
it was free and it worked great!
I just: installed an antivirus, photshop, a "rename file" program, I trouble shoot their network connection, and I map their network hard drive... so she can share her photos with the rest of the computers....
BTW... this means, that when I go there for xmas I won't find a pc full of virus... and I could actually enjoy my holidays

I was running it in my PC (win XP) and I was able to help my mom's PC (win XP) and her laptop (win Vista)
From what I heard they give you a 15 day trial and after that you can still use the the free version (not the pro version)
oz42 do you know what are the main differences between the pro and the free version?

Using logmein here for 3 years and it works perfectly! (15 computers right now in "My computers")
Works perfectly with Vista
Leonardo the main differences are.... transfering and sharing files, printing and synchronizing

Same here and I additionally use Hamachi Free edition for sharing files among these computers.

I'm trying to use logmein rescue... but it doesn't work anymore, could someone confirm the "rescue" is not part of the free part
Edit- I think I figure out how to use the free area, although it doesn't allow me to remote install it on other pcs
but I still like it!

Logmein Rescue is not free...there's a demo but it last just 14 days I think , sorry

I think you can't do remotely, you have to "Add" the computer to your account list (....and install the software) from the computer that is being added

...as long it is free
