Hi!

What would be a decent salary for a full time industrial designer in Istanbul? How much taxes are there to pay?

Thankful for any thoughs or experiences,

regards

- Björn

I was in Istanbul for last 15 years and a few weeks ago I moved to Çanakkale. The salaries are highly relative. It depends on who you work for and what they exactly expect from you. Typically a minimum salary would be about 1000 USD which is very low. A moderate one could be around 2000 USD but depending on what you do and who you do it for, it could go up to 3000 USD or even more, although quite rare... Are you planning to move?

Hi Tom, thanks for the info.

Me and my girldfriend are going to Istanbul this tuesday-thurday, and she has a job interview. I'm very curious on the city and wouldn't mind looking for something myself.

btw, are those sums after the tax has been deducted or before? how are the living expenses when it comes to rent and such?

regards,

- björn

Here in private sector, you don't need to think about taxes. Because, no matter how much you earn, your boss is paying the taxes over minimum official salary defined except some serious companies. So, these amounts are your final income free of taxes. Renting an apartment floor (typically between 70-120 sqm) is not less than 600 USD and can go up to 1000 USD. When you add other services, like gas, electric, water etc. and marketing you need to earn min 2500 USD to survive. IMO, Istanbul is expensive but it's the only city that has serious business potential. In my new location life is cheaper than Istanbul but the salaries and opportunities are way poor, too. I don't know why you decided to move to Istanbul, but if I was able to run out of here, I wouldn't check my back.

That doesn't sound too reinsuring, ... Well, this is about a small company that the thinks she would be interested in working for based on what they do. We'll go down and see what's all about, and also if Istanbul seems like a nice place to live for a while.. I'll let you know how it turns out :)

Yep, seem like a cool job. Too bad she'll be living so far away though... I'm gonna have to visit her pretty often. Might start looking for work there aswell later on..
