Good for Solidowrks to get out of the renderer they use now... Looking at the renders on the Modo site just reinforces what I already know... I'm spoiled by Maxwell rendering...

That's fantastic news, and I think especially for Bentley.
The render Engine they use now for MicroStation is a "prehistoric" one.

Not so good news for te cooperation between Maxwell and Microstation thoug...
here what Jerry Flynn at Bentley (Microstation) says about the agreement:
"Let me just say that IMHO, after we add the Luxology render option, it would
be pretty silly to use another renderer for MicroStation files, . We want
this technology in the hands of our users as soon as possible, so we are
planning to add it to Athens now, rather than have anyone waiting for it.
You will be absolutely amazed, at both the speed and quality using Luxology.
I looked at almost every rendering engine on the market and IMHO, Luxology
has the best rendering engine! I have been directly involved in
visualization for over 20 years and have seen a lot of technology, this is
awesome stuff.
Luxology renderer, completely erases our backlog of rendering features. The
only thing that it did not do, was volume lighting which has been on our
backlog for ten years. I say, was, because I mentioned this to Brad Peebler,
Alan Hastings and Stuart Ferguson, during their visit to Exton and they have
already added this capability to their renderer.
Forget Maxwell, while you can get great results "if you have enough time",
it is in my opinion toooooo slowwwww, and could never be used for animation.
On the other hand the Luxology renderer, is blazing fast and leverages all
the cores in a system..."

I am just wondering if we can export the fur... 2 maxwell..

that'd be cool..
he said he looked at "ALMOST" all render engines... I bet he forgot to look here...

Oh that's neatly shizzled. Would be a dream come true if you could create meshes from it, i really missed that in Modo. And if Modo becomes 64bit anytime soon, it should allow for a lot of fur

wow--that fiber optic example is B.A.
…think it may be time drop maya altogether (they won't let me upgrade since I've got a non-Autodesk version[7.0])

I should be very disapointed to Bentley, if they don't update the Maxwell Plugin for MicroStation in the future. If I look to a lot of other (3d) programm's, many of them became big with plugins from other companies.
I think I can use both render engines in the future the way for example many 3d studio artists use a combination of v ray (for quick projects) and Maxwell render (for quality) now.

There has been a plugin available for Microstation for almost 2 years now...
