Hi Hervé,

That movie looks very interesting indeed.
If you like Rembrandt, in Amsterdam you've got the Rijksmuseum with a lot of his paintings. De Nachtwacht, the painting you see on the link, hings there also.

he he, I am a big fan indeed... the movie was c-produced by the Rijksmuseum... I've been there at least 8 times... 8) I also go at the TEFAF every year since the first edition... last year there was a Rembrandt for sale..( a portrait).(ermmm about $40.... hehe SOLD )... . it was good because I could compare with many other Dutch painters... and really the Rembrandt was miles better.. also the chemicals he used makes his colors shine even after 380 years... like almost a fresh painting... incredible..

In the movie, what's interesting is the way Greenaway did... he made researches not about the painting... but about the people that were on the painting.. and why this group painting is so weird .. I mean the people that comissionned him were not happy at ALL.. hehe.. he made them look like a bunch of freaks.. and secretely put some clues inside the painting.. long story short...

Look at the 2 guys standing in middle.. now watch the shadow of the hand of the tallest guy... see where it goes.. hehe the yellow clothes guy was an homosexual with the tallest guy.. hehe.. BUT the yellow guy had an affair with the little girl behind ( kloveniers).. who is that girl... she 's the bastard daughter of the tall guy.. (he was going in Orphan stadt house to rape little girls on a daily basis..).. so he could not take his lover (the yellow guy) f....g her... so he commissioned a guy from the milicia to kill his lover... see the guy with the oak leaves just behind is shooting the yellow guy in his head.. hehe.. so what happened is that the yellow guy was dead while Rem. was doing the painting.. and so they took a look alike to complete it.. meanwhile the guy with oak leaves has left Amsterdam for the New Amsterdam.. hehe... Rembrandt knew the whole story (the milicia tried to make the murder into a accident, but the sister of the little girl (kloveniers) said all to Rembrandt..

the movie is outstanding.. crazy... best movie I've seen in the 10 last years.. period.

Voila... and much much more in the movie.. like this sequence where they burried Rembrandt's wife (Saskia) and as you knowin this time the had water problems.. :D and so Rembrandt try to get the water out of the thomb in the church.. crazy..

Wow, then you where there more then I.

If you came a lot in dutch museums I can recommend you the museum jaarkaart. For 35 Euro you can go a 100 times to the Rijksmuseum (in a year) if you want to.

I like Johannes Vermeer also. He had a unique style with very beautifull bright colors. He especially become famous of his paintings with dutch skies.

Has nothing to do with this movie but if you like good lighting in movies check out Richard Gere in Days Of Heaven. All natural lighting and a great story.
