I've got a few questions for a professional jewelry designer - specifically about jeweled rings. Any designer/modelers here?

Hi Mike,
There are probably a few of us jewelry folks around. Ask away.

Well this is concerning a custom engagement ring. I have a supplier for the diamonds, but I'm not sure how the process goes, in terms of specs for designing the ring itself, manufacturing, etc. I know what I want, design-wise, and was going to do it in Rhino myself, but I know better than to underestimate the craft like that. The presentation aesthetic for jewelry must be as complex as for any other discipline, meaning there's a right way and a wrong way. There's no way I know the right way - I'm not a professional jewelry designer.

I slip in here just to say: -Congratulations Mike!

I assume you are getting married, isn't it?

Don't lose the focus on the important things; that little round thing can unexpectedly jump to the drainpipe. :P

If I hadn't kept focus on the stuff that matters, we wouldn't be talking about a ring in the first place :P

That being said... girl's getting a diamond!

ah, sweet, Mike ! congrats !

you could impress her by a new design like this:
buy a really huge diamond and drill the right-sized hole through it .. :)

and .. don't publish any fancy renders, otherwise they'll show up in the maxwell manual (again) or all kinds of wedding magazines that your girl certainly is checking out .. :)

good luck !

Hi Mike: Feel free to PM me anytime, I am a jewellery designer/goldsmith/gemmologist. I use Rhino to design some of my work and then go from there. I would be happy to give you any advice you need.
