Future-proof DSLR system, anyone?

Hello :)

I'm looking to get a DSLR system, and I have a few queries that I'd like the forum's photographers input on...

1) Full frame bodies are too expensive for me at the moment, but I want the lenses that I buy for this system to be compatible with a full frame system when they become more affordable.

2) I'm mainly looking to take "spontaneous portraits" and "general" photos, so in 35mm terms I think I'm looking at something like a 28-135mm zoom and a fast 85mm prime. Then again, I have some portraits shot with a 50mm that I like...

3) Manual focusing - I've used a Minolta manual focus film camera with split-image spot, microprism band and acute matte field. I'd like these as well in my DSLR...

4) Recommendations for a decent swivel flash?

What's the best way to future proof this system, to make sure I can take decent pictures now and later, when sensor sizes change, without having to re-buy everything?

I especially like Canon, all "proper" point and shoot cams we've had were Canons and I am quite amazed by there robustness and really like the interface. Furthermore Sony's Alphas have gotten my attention. While I won't be able to use my current lenses (they're too old - MD mount), the range of older lenses that may have good optical performance but are cheap(ish) on ebay are intrigueing.

Oh, to add, I can afford to spend something like 300-400GBP (370 - 500EUR) on the body, and up to 250GBP on each lens. The next body may be due in three years (estimate =)

Please share your thoughts :D
