Ah yes, i stumbled upon it yesterday. Awesome layout :D
The most amazing is that this machine just cost as a better standard PC, but has 24 cores that run each at 2.4 Ghz, a total of 48GB ram, and just need 400W of power!!
I hope this is remotely true. If we're talking less than 1KW on full load, then it'd be a great solution.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't PSUs with a central blowing fan supposed to blow into the PSU casing from the bottom up rather than the top down?

"The most amazing is that this machine just cost as a better standard PC, but has 24 cores that run each at 2.4 Ghz, a total of 48GB ram, and just need 400W of power!! This means that it hardly gets warm, and make less noise then my desktop pc.

Render jobs that took all night, now gets done in 10-12 min."

I would love to build one of those, but I guess it's not "one box=one Maxwell license"...?

I don't really understand how the price of that could be comparable to a good single PC. Just the 48gigs of ram......? Where does he buy his stuff from? :)

~3500$ is less than what I paid for my 8-core system...

Good connections most likely.
There´s just no way in hell he can get all that hardware for the price of a single good machine in a normal way. Especially not if he bought it in Sweden.

The memory and the quads alone costs more than $3500.

Interesting setup  I did a quick search on ebuyer.com (not always the cheapest site, but usually a good benchmark,) and everything including the cabinet itself would come in at under £2000. It'll be interesting to see his notes on setup etc, and if it would be possible to set this up as a linux render farm attached to an xp computer.

If it is....I'm so there :D

Yes, very cool idea. I really consider to build something similar... maybe start with 3-4 systems first.
but it would be possible to build a 24core box for less than 2500€

maybe a better PSU, 12cm fans and a better coolable case... but it should be possible for 2500€

- yes i got a very similar setup around newyear , when i thought that the q6600 coudn't get any cheaper, was 195€ then... now 155.. wow! and ram even cheaper, too.

Just take care that you get the 95w G0 stepping version, it runs cooler!

.. and yes for a "burn proof" 24/7 system, i would definetely spend a few more bucks on the powersupply, gives you room for overclocking too!
