My PC is on its last legs and I'm looking to build something new and exciting. I'm looking for it to be a pretty high end system - probably around the £3k mark and i was thinking of going something along the lines of below.
1 x Skultrail Mobo
2 x Intel QX9650
1 x Western Digital Velociraptor (already have 1TB of other drives to move from the old system)
1 x EVGA Gefore 9800 GX2 (can step up to the 9900 GTS for free when it comes out with EVGA)
8GB high end DDR2 RAM
Zalman 22" 3D screen.
Water cooling, good PSU etc etc
Mainly this system is for my jewellery modelling and rendering in maxwell. I use Solidworks, modo, zbrush none of which have taxed my current graphics card a geforce 7800gt so i'm not going to bother spunking ridiculous money away on a Quadro FX card.
I would also like to experience Crysis in all its glory, but mainly its for work.
So, i know this would be a fairly awesome system. Knowing i'm willing to spend about £3k, is this maximum bang for the buck? Would I be better off with 2 equivalent Quad core Xeons or even 4 slower quad core Xeons?
I know the only point of having so many cores will be for using maxwell, but i'm doing more and more work with it and it currently takes basically 24 hours for each image and i could really do with changing that situation!
Any advice gladly recieved.
