This is very cool, but apparently this will not be a part of the next 1.5 upgrade, and therefore will not likely be free either. The forum suggest that this is still in alpha so it's not quite ready for market yet.

Vray is not really all that complicated IMO - particularly if you are not interested in totally optimizing render times. It's just complicated when compared to Maxwell/unbiased approaches.

Oops, you are right! I've just seen 1.60.something in the videos and they talk about it as something not nearly done so it will take time. So they don't even know about the prices.

And also, all the test videos were done in a dual-quad core...

The technology is worth seeing INDEED And Vray is indeed a MUST, on the other hand I am NOT sure if can say the same about maxwell.

I am not expecting Maxwell to do what others are capable of doing, BUT definitely it doesn't even do what it says on the package. And yes many products have issues, bugs etc. therefore they all have a support department, (NL's suport is UNPRESENTED). If you get any support, that comes down to the SUPER COOL USERS in the Forum, But then again does every one wants to upload work on the forum?

I really dont now what to EXPECT from NL any more...

I care very little about the money I have spend on Maxwell, But my time, has it been wasted ?

Is Maxwell another Rosetta Stone That NO ONE can translate?

Please take my comments as they are from someone who cares and wants this product to go further, Reach out to your customers, answer their questions/wishes, let them know what your goals are, dont behave like pop stars, you only have a single out there not even a record.

yes I know for some time now trying to be diplomatic but as you can see I had enought, all I give them is to wait till V2.

It looks pretty neat, but it's nothing revolutionary. I messed with Bunkspeed a few months back, and started this thread on the topic.

Watching those VRay videos, I'd say that Bunkspeed is actually faster, as I tested the software on a single dual core PC, and it updated just as quick. The ability to add objects in real-time is a very cool VRay feature though.

I've read a few comments like this, as if "revolutionary" was somehow relevant. I just don't get it. Everyone is focusing on whether FPrime had it first, or whatever. Who cares? If it works and works well that is all that matters to me.

I too tried Hypershot rather extensively and was first very impressed and then ultimately profoundly disappointed in how shallow the material/image quality really is. I agree that this looks like hypershot, and it may be arguably slower - but it has Vray level materials - and you can actually use lights (which is revolutionary compared to Hypershot) This will very likely make Hypershot look like a toy - which I think it really is outside of a narrow band of possible uses.

Anyway - Maxwell needs something like this, period the end IMO.

I disagree. I think Maxwell is a different market. IMHO realtime rendering is going to become all GPU based in the future which is a whole different direction to Maxwell. Check out this product for the ultimate in realtime rendering:

I think we're looking at the same thing differently here.

It's not about realtime *rendering* - it's the realtime *previewing* that is essential to a faster workflow IMO. The one is definitely reachable, the other maybe not (at least not on my budgets )

You're absolutely right. It depends on your workflow needs. Right now, I use simple screen captures during the design process to get feedback from the client as to what they like/dislike, and then I do the final production render in Maxwell. However, as GPU technology gets better, I can see how many of my clients would be satisfied with the realtime screen capture as a final production image, which would be sweet for my workflow. Maybe it's the difference between doing this stuff as art, or actually using it to streamline your business. Both sectors of the market have very different needs.

The biggest benefit for my workflow is the accurate positioning of lighting/reflectors. It simply cannot be done without test rendering now, and I don't care how good you are, that is never the same when you have to do it in discrete steps instead of just moving a light around and seeing what it does to your subject in (relatively) realtime. That is going to be a huge, huge time saver and also allow a much more refined approach to lighting within production timelines.

Second to that would be material development/testing, but that will always need the time it takes for a proper render to really see what's going on in any detail.

Just my .02, but this is something I have been waiting for since I first looked at 3D!
