I've got a fairly new site up, but it's only hosting my still images as of right now. I KNOW NOTHING about flash, my friend Todd has been helping me with anything and everything on the site. I only use the xml file to upload and adjust my photos, gallery etc.

My question is, how do I upload a movie when using an xml file to control my gallery? Does it work the same way as my JPEG static images?

Also, the site uses actionscripting, which from what I understand makes it a bit harder to host videos, no?

Also, what's the best format / resolution / compression to host videos on the net?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the blind post, but I don't know jack about Flash as I said above.

Really depends on how it's coded, but it could well be that it doesn't work as easily. After all the page has to extract a frame from you video to display a thumbnail. If it's a template i'd contact the distributor, if Todd made it, ask Todd

Two relatively unrelated things. As in the former question, if the script has to do all the work, then it could be tricky. But generally speaking the two don't need to interfere with each other, if you add the video manually.

Flash Video (i think most commercial packages can export to it) has become very popular in recent years, YouTube anyone? Other alternatives are Quicktime which can be embedded as well. Don't like it though, as the player is bloatware and the alternatives sometimes have difficulties playing it. If you want to offer it as a downloadable file, most [H.264/MPEG-4 AVC] solutions are the best performers in terms if image quality.

Resolution wise i'd go pretty high since your work is of visual nature, so DV 720x480 is very reasonable in the times of broadband internet. Nobody can properly judge your work in a blocky 320x280 stream.

I'm sure someone with more Flash knowledge can help you out fruther, good luck.

Anyone know a specific actionscript that should make this work?

I dont know any flash but that is the beginnings of a nice site you have there
