Hi everybody! /dr.Nick off

..anyway.. my friend is about to get a modeling and rendering software. Requirements are simple for 3d: It must be cheap or free no matter is it polygon, nurb or solid program. Rendering software should be also free or cheap.

Well that's it.. could You give me few good hints - thank's.

Here's one i like, Carrara 6 Pro now from Daz3D. It's cheap yet powerful for it's low price.

Maybe Blender and Kerkythea....

For NURBS, I think Rhino (not free) is very good.... Or MoI.... if it is only for export to rendering.

luxrender is free, I think they're focusing on integration with blender.

yeah, too ba MoI turned out to be just as expensive as Rhino. I really did that was going to remain a light-weight and cheap alternative. Now I really can't find no motivation to buy it since I have Rhino for the same price..

Moi isn't that expensive now, it's only $195 which i think it's cheap for what it can do. And as far as i know Rhino costs way more now, like $995 or something like that.

Sorry, you're right Max, I guess I was thinking about the Student price for which I bought it... Perhaps that isn't that expensive then..

No worries Björn :) i didn't know they had studentprices, but if it costs the same or cheaper then i understand why you said what you did.

Yep, the student price is 195 euro or dollar (comparing the dollar 1:1 to an euro is in itself quite mad). I realize now that is a pretty hefty discount. Nice!

What is it primarily for?
For architecture and simple curved stuff (not double curvature) I can really recommend SketchUp. The free version does almost everything the full version does. Extremely easy to learn and fun, but still powerful.
You can render for free in Kerkythea, or a really easy to use one is Podium (179 usd). SkatchUp also has the Maxwell plugin  .

If you cant free forms/ Sub-D there is also Wings3D, which is free. Or use both.
