just tried out modo 301.
i did this tests:
1) polygon reduction of a mesh with 1.2 M polygons
result: crashed.
2) merging of 6000+ polygons grid with 2900 holes.
result: crashed after second try on the same mesh.
3) Triple a single polygon with 2900 holes previusly modeled on Lightwave.
result: crashed.
it seems that Modo dosnt free the memory buffer after some functions.
After 3-5 consequent polygon reductions of a 900.000 polygon model Modo crashes always.
i used modo on a quadcore with 2 GB ram + 4 GB paging file.
Is that normal for Modo? may i'm dowing somthing wrong?

No, it crashes a lot, especially when multitasking (several consecutive requests of heavy workload). They gotta improve it in that department.

Daros, why don't you try to ask questions on luxology forum directly?

Sure?
He is not going to ask: "is modo better than silo"?
You will be surprised... to get good suggestions there.

And there's probably more Modo-like activity on this forum. Its a pretty quiet forum.

Agreed, and there's a big chance that daros ain't registered over here and he don't feel like registering for just one question.
Anyhow, Modo 301 sadly crashes from time to time and some bugs are there which should not be there. I have no clue why they didn't fix the most obvious bugs and issues before they released it but it's kinda annoying.
Most users on the Modo forum tend to sit on pretty high horses so you need to be a bigcheese successfull type of guy to get heard over here, small fishes (like me) dissapear like a waterdrop in the mud on that forum.

yeah modo seems to crash alot. From the testing I have done - I find it highly unstable.. You really get to test the ctrl+S feature..
now that said, Modo has some really REALLY cool modeling features. Some of them not like anything else. The rendering system is wonderfull both in quality and speed, the realtime preview is amazing.
But When I have to do some serious modeling, I will still chose a combination of Maya and Silo. Modo still hasnt succeeded on growing on me, but its getting better..
My final verdict of Modo:
Silo 2.0 is best value for money if you can live without the renderer.

But it seems Lux listened to it's users and released a bugfix update recently for 301 which fixes some of issues but not yet all of them. It's a nice update, hopefully this will be something they do more regularly to keep Modo up to date all the time so we don't have to wait for 302 to get the software fixed.
Go and grab it if you're a Modo user.

Shame it's only available as a 499Mb full install.
Not only is that a big file to download, it means that I will have to reinstall/configure all plugins & scripts screen layouts etc etc.
That's a lot of messing about knowing another update won't be too far away.

I dont think so.
Simple uninstall former 301, install 301-22855, run it. Plugins and custom layout still work for me.
