For the upcoming release of Maxwell with displacement and maybe some other new stuff what do you guys & girls think about if we now start preparing for a challenge using this new displacement feature and see what we can do with it.

[Edit] : Read below for more info.

Let us brainstorm some ideas and other suggestions here and see what we can come up with and if we find a good idea then i think we should go ahead with it and setup the challenge a week or two after the release is out.

Are you guys interested in this ? :) i think it would be great fun!

Hehe, i guess you're one of those who can't participate :P too bad.
But you're interested in this competition thingy ?

We'll see about that no-betatesters rule, i might change it.. ;)

I'll help set something up if we can't participate. Just let me know what I can do.

In that case let's remove that silly rule i talked about in the first post. :) consider it gone. And let's also set it to 2 weeks after the new release been out so we normal users can get a chance to learn the ways of displacement and what other stuff the release has to offer. It should be plenty of time to get good enough at it. :)

Welcome in aboard Hyperballad. I'm glad you're interested and also willing to help setting this in motion.

Good to see you too are interested Bubba :)

And guys start to come up with different ideas and suggestions for themes of the challenge or competition. We need some good themes of what we should produce, something which not only a few users such as character artists can do but it should be targeted towards a bigger audience so more users can participate and ofcourse the requirement is that displacement is the central subject around whatever should be created.

No no, i don't know when it will be released. All i know is what everyone else knows that the upcoming release will have displacement and they told us it's not that far away so that's why i started planning this now a bit in advance so we're ready when they actually release it to us normal users.

And i suspect we're getting quite close to the release now, it's a feeling i got :) ..maybe mid October or early November, i don't know. This is pure speculation only from where i'm sitting.

Anyhow as we wall want displacement, don't try to deny it :) then this is a good idea to give that feature a nice welcome, by starting off with a challenge where we must use it. It would also function as a introduction phase, a way of learning how to use it well.

Good you agree d7 :)

def: Yeap :) they can't postpone it to January-March 2008, no way that's gonna happen. You may call me Mary Poppins if they do :D a month before xmas this year should it be out.

While we wait let's begin by brainstorming for some good ideas for different themes for this challenge where displacement is the main thing. Come on now, don't be so slow :)

It could be anything from landscapes, insects, nature, other organic stuff, technical and mechanical gadgets, surfaces & materials and much much more..

Well, i was actually going to anyway. Just thought it would be pretty cool to test the displacement feature for that project. Sure could save some polys there. :)
