Vmware workstation with multiple multicore CPU

Do anyone have experience in working with virtual machines under Vmware workstation on multiple multicore CPU (es. 2 quad core Xeon) machines?
Does Vmware recognise and use all eight cores? How much performances are losen by the overhead of Vmware?
