I ordered a quad 6600 system today for a great price.
Case, power supply, MB, memory (4gb OCZ platinum) and 6600 quad core for $1010.00 CAD. Excellent deal and it will halve my current render times! Yay!
I had spare parts for everything else....

Tigerdirect.ca is having a sale (q6600 with 680i mobo) for 539$. Far cheaper than even the place in markham I normally buy from.

I hope your joking,

I'd like to enjoy at least 2 months before a major price drop - plus one of my vendors told me xeon's and quadcores wont change price until september...

I wonder how I missed that? Anyhow, for 539$ canadian I got the 6600 and a motherboard worth about 170$, so still not bad. Plus, I can't really wait anymore, I'm getting killed trying to push images out.
Second plus, is that one of my current machines is a p5b deluxe with a conroe 6400 in it. So when the price does drop I can buy another 6600 and drop it in as an upgrade.
Still - it hurts!

...just go for
Xeon 3210 (same like Q6600 but 2,1 GHz) together with
Asus P5k!
i have no problems up to 2,8 GHz

This is what the proc. cost me:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz / 8MB Cache / 1066MHz FSB / Kentsfield / Quad Core / OEM / Socket 775 / Processor $366.52
So, since that's canadian it's pretty close...
