Hi friends
I have a job where the client wants 3D animated peps, walking, running, swimming and so on, the only 3D peps that i really like are the axyz-design, but the problem is that i don´t want spend or waste time animating each 3D peps, so i thought if i buy the FBX rigged models of axyz is there a way to change the T-data for the walk or running data and load into my software.
I own Poser 5 and Cinema4D9.6 or 10.1 (this is my main program)
Please any help is welcome i feel like i´m in a dead end

Cheers
JC

PS. I have about a month to do an animation about 4 minutes of 4 houses each different with internal route each one and the main club house besides 16 still views :?

You could d/l the free fbx converter from autodesk if it still exists. It will export obj or 3ds leaving you free to re-rig in Poser's setup room

Alternatively use an app that can import fbx (most 3d)

Also there is an fbx plugin for daz studio at about $99usd

Thank you so much bbuxton, you know if i load an FBX T-pose model like from axyz in this plugin from DAZ i can change the T-pose bones for another FBX pose that i want like the exported data from Poser5 without touching the mesh just replacing the old bones wuith the new ones?

I think you may require motionbuilder for that.

If you use or have access to motionbuilder be sure to stick to the same naming convention.

Have you tried getting axyz to send you obj & bvh data? Surely this would be easier. Alternatively follow poser's naming convention and use poser pose presets.

I don't use poser very much as the meshes are a bit too heavy for my use & the app runs very slow on my hardware.

Thanks for your help, i just send a email to axyz-design team in order to see if they know a method to do that.
Maybe is the language barrier but i don't understand what you mean with the same naming convention.
Sorry i feel like a dumb but this is the first time that i know about FBX and BVH file formats, please have a little patience
I wish to find a tutorial to do that i want step by step

the names that you give to the bones, i.e. hierachy -> arm, fore arm, hand etc.

Have you managed to re-rig your character in poser?

If not you just draw them in the setup room (starting with the root) and name them in the hierachy editor. I'm not sure how you bind them to the geometry though.

Hi jc4d.
Sorry, I'm not able to help with your main issues :( but I believe "naming convention" means, that you gotta use the exact names in the one app as they were being used in the other app.
So for example when it's in poser "leg1.right_side.bone12.upper.east.side" then it has got to be exactly "leg1.right_side.bone12.upper.east.side" in the app that you exported the geometry into.

Edit:
Oh man... I am sooooo slow...

Thanks for the explanation :D
The problem is that i don't want to waste time to re-rig the character, i want to make the process most automatic possible; because i see the axyz have a new product where the characters came in fbx format and i just want to replace that information with the new one, i.e. the presets from poser or replace the fbx information with bvh data because poser can't handle fbx format.
Maybe i asking something impossible :?

For it to be automatic(ish) the best way would be to get the fbx plugin for Daz Studio - import fbx then export poser and bvh. When in poser you will then be able to import the bvh and apply it from one model to another. You could also save pose data ( as poses) from the various models as presets (these should be interchangable if axyz have been consistant in their naming).

Personally I would stay with Daz Studio as it's a little easier on system resources & easier to use

note !!

My apologies the fbx plugin for daz studio is for export only.

Thank you so much for your help.
It´s really weird that Poser or DAZ can´t handle this kind of files, but Cinema4d can handle it but you can´t export in BVH format in order to import into Poser, this is really frustrating
I just receive an email from axyz-design team:
The method to animate in C4D is not easy.
We have a wide variety of characters in MAA and FBX format, this one can be animated in Motionbuilder and then imported to C4D, but if you don´t have experience with Motionbuilder the process can be complex.
Another effective method is animate the characters in MAX and export the file as MDD file using the Point Oven plugin for MAX: http://www.ef9.com/ef9/PO1.5/PointOven_Downloads.html
Later you can use the C4D plugin in order to import it: http://www.zoogono.com/plugindetail.cfm?pid=34

I hope to have been clear. Before any doubt, it does not let contact to me.

Best regards,

David Lammer
aXYZ design

The team of aXYZ is really nice, sadly this method can´t help me a lot because i want a more automatic way to assign expression in this figures

PS. the email that they send me was worte in spanish, sorry for the bad translation
