I'm thinking that maybe xp64 (installed on a mac) is not rendering to its full capabilities - its slower for rendering than when i was using mac OS.

If i have 4 renders running at once the CPU usuage is at a maximum but the PF Usage graph stays low at 1.44 GB. Is there something wrong here - how can i optimise it?

This is a mac pro with 4 gig of ram.

New or old Mac Pro ..... ?

If it's an 8 core, ....are they all burning ?

Its the quad core - they are all at max CPU usage in the task manager (4 graphs) but the PF Usage is low.

Well, ...that's kind of how you want it to be, ...meaning, ..it's using actual ram vs. the virtual memory -- of which I never understood anyway exactly why any paging file is being used when a scene doesn't require it ??

Even in Win 64/32 if I remove the paging file altogether, ...it still indicates that it's using one !

I'd love it if someone could take the mystery out of that one for me ..... :)

oooo k. How much memory should mxcl use? Mine shows about 300,000k (in processes).

It's scene dependent .... and I have no real references for poly's / memory allocation .....

You just have to kind of pay attention to what mxcl.exe is doing with particular scenes to get a general feel.

Sorry Will .....that's the best I have on that one.
