How the hell do you people upload avatars here? I keep getting the file has to be less than 6kb warning but I see some on here that are definitely bigger than that.
Retarded question, but hey I gots ta know!

i am no expert (as you can see - or not see

but i think they host the image files somewhere else and just provide a link to this server.

How do you get JPG's down to 6kb?

Even the most basic of applications have a quality slider with which you can specify how strong you want to compress your JPEG image. Unless you have a very random pattern, 6kb should be easy to attain on such a small image.
If you can get a PNG down to that filesize, it's preferable to a JPEG.

In Photoshop I can't get mine below 35kb and it is the same size as Hyperballad's!

It's a size thing .... I forgot what the px by px size it had to be in order to be an exact 6KB's ....but your avatar looks about right. (Well it did, ...but in the time it took to write this post ----- it's gone ! ..lol)
If you upload and link to your avatar, .....you can disregard the 6KB limitation, .....but with that said ----- don't get all crazy and have some mutant size avatar (totally possible). In that case, ..they start to shift the entire page !
..not cool.
