You must have had everything maxed out. I got $4,696.00 with the 3.0 clovertown and 4gig ram. Thats actually not that bad for a machine like that. Sandy you dont need 4 hard drives @ 750gb each do you. Although those mxi's can get pretty big

Sweet mother of all computer configs.. that would surely rock having under the desk.. wow! and that price would ruin a smaller country's economic balance in a splitsecond.

No 10K RPM drives on the list.

No Nvidia 8800's ?, ...just the pricey Quadro.

* The memory is fairly priced.

ps. If you go with the cheaper 2.0 Xeons and later want to upgrade to the 3.0's ......it's down time with a trip to the Apple Store or worse (ship the machine) ---- flipping out the processors is basically impossible on the user end.

i'm kind of in the same boat--though I bought mine in January…it never fails, I always seem to buy things right before the new and improved versions come out. I've made my peace though--the machine I have now is so much faster than my old one that i'm still happy. If I really get desperate I could always swap out the processors (though maybe not for a year or so)

Oh well.. in 1 year there'll be another release and the 8 core will be slow. Maybe i should just get another one.

The intel Macpro's are not so difficult to manually upgrade the cpu's. The quadcore xeon cpu's should have the same socket as the dual core ones:

I wonder if there's some useful returns policy that could help me out.
