A Unified Simulation Framework (hair, cloth, liquid, and solid dynamics)

Looks really great! Would love to see something like this ported over to 3ds Max......

yep i agree with sunlighrocker!.. it is Fantastic.. esp for cloth and stuff that was a bit more of a hassle befe(esp cloth) and doing stuff like softbodies. .you can do just a bit easier in nCloth i think now..

we too have started to bring it into our work here.. but we got a lil more testing to go..

in case you guys haven't seen it.. the maya bonus tools for maya 8.5 are out WITH the bonus tools Upgrade1.. which is a sepreate file.. AND a seprate file in the maya 8.5 bonus tools section is a "nCloth presets" sdownload.. We just got this a few days a go and the presets are nice...

read the user comments about installation..it goes into your docs and settings folder. presets..into a ncoth folder(not you main maya folder as the original instructions suggest)
http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/blog/4/b ... /#comments

here is a direct link to the maya bonus tools page. .scroll down and you will see the bonus tools update 1 and then you will see the nCloth presets doewnload!..(must be logged in to the-area to view this link i think)

this nucleaus is yet more "digital heroin" fun for us to have

btw/ do someone knows a good ncloth tutorial? I think I'm missing something, I just create some cloths, then a save my scene and play somemore with ncloth, and when I re-open the saved scene and the simulation has changed and is all messed up. ¿?

iker.. look at "DUNCANS CORNER" under BLOGS on "the-are" links I provided above..(there is also a myalicious maya tut blog)
also duncan(a alias/autodesks head programer) is on CGTALK under maya/dynamics section. .and he also responds to threads on highend3d forums..

But as a quick reply to your q.. the BEST way to keep your scene once youve got a simulation u like is to go to to the nCache file menu> and creat a cache.. then your file should open up fine again..

those nCaches are powerful. .and Im still learning myself.. but basically you can create multiple caches and merge/ mix em .. you can simulat to a certain frame.. change settings and append to the cache with the new parameters.. But Im learning as I go to..

here is a link to duncans corner were he posts a few ntuts...

hehehe

ya I gotta admit I was a bit nervous at first.. but now it seems all good in the hood..

and the way I understand the autodesk tie in with maya/max is that autodesk has plans to release Nucleaus to 3dsmax as well ... but Im not sure were I readit ..IT would be a great move on their part to release a nucleaus for max.. (but you max boys/girls are lucky to have sooo many different 3rd party dynamics pluginss already available.. like afterburn and such.. ) but maybe soon youll get some nucleaus to play with!

Thanks 3dtrialpractice for the tuts!
It's funny but still happens when I open a Duncan's scene, for example the Bag of marbles scene, all the balls interpenetrate and get out the bag just when I hit play without touching anything. :?:

iker..

hey i looked into it.. I downloaded duncans bag o marbles scene..
I was able to get it to solve right. .and to do what your saying by having the marbles fall outa the bag..

I think I got your solution.. In you maya Preferences> Settings

Goto Timeline: make sure that PLAYBACK is set to PLAY EVERY FRAME

NOT to RealTime.. in maya you ALWAYS want dynamics to evaluatate at everyframe when you hit play UNIT you cache the scene and then AFTER you cache the scene you can change your playback to Realtime...

my maya was set to playevery frame. and the bag of marbles scene works well.. once I set it to RealTime then the marbles all messed up and came outa the bag..

So I HOPE this is an easy fix to your problem.. let us know if it aint the solution..
