Hi deadalvs, thanks!
Indeed, I think I will do that, I'll only be using it as bump

the [micro]porous structure is quite good to scan with it's «depth» which might get real good quality and there would be only a little tweaking needed to get a decent map. be sure to choose a material that gives a good contrast under the light of the scanner. maybe not black or white...
and it's cheap...

don't know if this is exactly what you are looking for, but take a look here:

Nico you could try and get a hold of a mold-tech book and scan in some textures for bumps. They are one of the big suppliers of molding textures for plastics.
http://www.mold-tech.com/ Not sure if they have samples on their website, but if you dig around a bit maybe there would be something you could download directly from them. Course it is probably too low res.
We have a catalog in the office. If I have some free time this morning I will see if I can scan one in for you and you can make it tileable.

See if this works. We had a large piece back in the shop. I scanned it in at fairly high res. You may need to adjust the levels/brightness contrast to get the bump you want, but it should be a good starting point.
