animation render resolution question (3d max)

Hey Guys,
Looking for some pointers here on this…

doing the animation in 3d max.

A client is requesting that I render my animation at 914 * 510 but only have my animation in a certain spot taking about 531*274.. So that he has white space when he goes in adds other stuff to the movie in a post process application… the image below might help better describe what I'm trying to do...
My first thoughts were to create the animation at 531*274 and he could just insert my animation into his larger file be he's saying thats not the cause.

Thanks,
Mark

He sounds a bit insane :)

he can always add your animation to what ever size composition he wants....don't see what the problem is.

I thought it was only me

I think he’s using final cut pro… I wouldn’t see why he couldn’t put in a larger movie in that program.

You think my best bet is to tell him it cant be done and I would just need to render at what ever the animation need to be (531*274) .

Only thing I can think of is eye balling it in the view port, not sure if it would even work... and I really don’t feel like doing that

Tell the crazy man that that sort of thing is always done in post processing with NLE software. If he doesn't know how to do that in the software he is using, then he shouldn't be using the software at all.

Looking at the resolutions he is asking for, I think he really must be crazy. I'm not aware of any video/broadcast system with a native resolution of 914x510.

I think the guy is on crack....... My advice would be to call the police and run away.... 8)

If you do that, charge him extra..... Think of it as a special "bonehead request, service charge." :P

yeah, if you have any editing/comping software at hand that would take about a second. but.. if your client doesn't have access to the same app, then you'd have to render it twice (render the actual animation first, and then render out, say, a sequence of uncompressed frames from whatever editing tool you'd be using), which of course wouldn't take as long, but still sounds like an unnecessary hassle.

plus, as michael says, 914x510 is quite an odd res. almost hd in proportion (actually it should be 914x514 square pixels), but not hd by any other means.
but this, I guess, it's really a client's concern.
