For the ones planning to upgrade to something 64 bit on PC, I would suggest x64 pro edition. Vista seems like a lunapark to me.

i hope noone still believes that microsoft is creating good software. they never have...and somehow dont even try to improve. the only thing they do is push the vendors to preinstall their crap.

Does OSX be faster than OS9...if this could be compared, i doubt the result will be in favor of OSX.

That sure sucks but i suggest people have a look at the other, not so shocking benchmark results/pages. I'm quite unsatisfied with XP64, mainly driver related issues that also prevent me from using some of my favorite utils. I thus seriously consider going Vista to see better support, which is sure to come.

Meanwhile I really enjoy Kubuntu 6.1 64bit, now that's an OS. Only thing that still keeps me in Windows is the damn apps. The "there isn't enough user interest in a Linux version so we won't develop one for now" is never gonna allow for a change, because so many cling to Windows because of that in the first place.

Blender people will naturally be rooting for the free Indigo, but i'd really love to see a Blender plug-in especially since 1.2 is gonna be native Linux (Indigo only via Wine). Juan also hinted that if someone was willing to work on a Blender plug-in, he'd be welcome to get in touch with NL. Either way Blender should be well suited with its extensive scripting capabilities.

Vista does indeed have some great new features, the Superfetch thing for one. It uses all your available ram to store frequently used applications and files, instead of doing it like XP and letting the ram go to waste most of the time. This means your applications will start up much faster, you can access files faster. It seems security is better, searching is faster and DX10 will make for some very interesting UI additions later on I think. Personally I think I'll go from XP32 to Vista directly and skip Win64.

Mihai, .... is your tongue firmly in your cheek somewhere and I just can't tell ? ...most of the things you mentioned can be tightened up with add-ons and hardware improvements within xp, ...no?

for the record: ...this OS thing is getting messy --- If I was a developer, ..I wouldn't know what the hell to work on ....

Well, honestly, I haven't had any problems with security, email worms etc, but many people who are novice users do. They don't know they have to install anti spyware add-ons, they don't know what spyware is. This is where Vista could make a difference.

The Superfetch feature, I don't think it's something that can be added on to XP, and it could prove to be a very nice feature.
