Intel shows off its tech horsepower, revealing more details about its upcoming 45 nm CPU generation: Penryn, a processor core that will replace the current 65 nm Core 2 processors, uses a new transistor technology to boost performance and reduce power consumption. The Penryn quad-core will carry a stunning 820 million transistors.

Looks like good news.
And according to the Washington Post........

Hours after Intel publicly disclosed it had reached this milestone, International Business Machines announced that it had developed a similar technology in collaboration with Advanced Micro Devices, Intel's chief rival, and would begin using it in products next year.

Great, i just learned what IBM stands for <o/

410m transistors on a die smaller than a penny. We're so used to it by now but it's truly marvelous technology.

I hope we'll still have competition, it's very quiet on the AMD side for a relatively long time now.
