So it's time for a new display

I pushed the decision around in front of me for very long now but my CRT is really starting to show more and more signs of imminent failure.

Now the two screens i have an eye on are the Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP (widescreen) and the Eizo FlexScan S2100(-K) (4:3). I can get both for roughly the same price and both have very good reviews.

The Dell has a nice 1920x1200 resolution and is HDMI ready, if that even matters to me. I heard it's also decent for a bit of gaming, not though for hardcore gamers, but atm i'm not gaming at all and i've got no idea if i will again anytime soon.

The Eizo has a native 1600x1200 resolution and no HDMI support. It supposedly shines with both excellent image quality and very powerful handling/customization. It also has a shorter response time and should thus be better for gaming and motion pictures.

What i'd mainly use them for is 3D apps, 2D/graphic design/photo touchup, webdesign/coding, gaming a "maybe".

I hope you have advice for me and can push me into one direction i'm so 50/50 right now but i really need to get this over with. :)

Thanks.

I use the EIZO 2100 since a few weeks and I'm very happy. The automatic brightness is a nice feature. :D

generally, the EIZO monitors are of very high quality, some of my mates use them and are happy with this brand - so this is probably not a bad choice!

we have an eizo too since a few months now: eizo 2110w
it's a 21" widescreen 1680x1050 with a great picture quality and brightness and a very good black level. 8)

EIZO is a producer of calibrated high end screens, so the knowhow is in the company. :)

Thanks, looks like an amazing screen as well, got great reviews and is in the same price category as the other two. Actually I'm really tempted to go with this one, either way i think we agree that i can't do much wrong with any of them.

...the only thing you should be aware of is that this eizo "slim edge" design is only remarkable in the front view.
it's quite fat if look at it sideways.

...but i like it ...looks potent :D

Perhaps go one step beyond current needs:

The 17 inch version had exceptional reviews!

For Stereo 3d image creation this thing is a blast. Not to mention gaming.

Oh Ya: Preorder the 22" now and save $200 from the normal $999.

Solid monitor. Get a hardware calibrator - not that expensive, and utterly worth it. I use a LaCie Blue Eye, because it came with one of my LaCie monitors, but it's actually just a repackaged Gretag-Macbeth Eye-One Display2 calibrator, so it works perfectly with the Gretag-Macbeth Eye-One Match calibration software. $249 retail.
