i just stubled over apple xgrid.
i alsways thought it is only for specialadapted software, but on their website it reads more like it works for any software, they even name animators as target group.

i almost dont believe this. does anybody know more about xgrid?

cheers

well i looked into this, then at a certain point got discouraged for two reasons:

1) "Without any extra effort, you can increase the power of special Xgrid-enabled applications simply by adding more Macs to the cluster."

2) "Xgrid takes the grunt work out of splitting jobs and collecting results."

So, "Xgrid enabled applications" didn't sound very encouraging in maxwell's case, then it seemed that if xgrid must split a job then collect results in maxwell's case would that be any different from the existing net render option? (if in fact one could get it running?)

Not sure, waiting for the right rainy day to try it out :)
