The really nice thing about this is watching the price of the expensive dual dual core boxes i just bought go down the shitter in the arc of about 5 seconds...i need a tea...

same as you aitraaz, but I don't care: I'm more than happy at the moment.
and, hell no, I won't start drinking tea for such a minor thing, I never gonna be addicted with that evil poison.

Really hope we can see some actual pricing now, not just speculation. Still gonna go C2Duo pretty sure, just so much more affordable.
@ Vodka: CPUs are always stable, otherwise they wouldn't be sold. What case is your comment about?

It's nice but so expensive.
and core2quad Q6600 will be released at early next year.
it'll be about $851.
but anyway expensive too.

It's not so expensive when you think that you would need to buy two Core 2 systems (since you can't put them on a dual socket mb) to get the same performance as this monster CPU. So taking into account the full system price and performance, it's actually quite good.

Yea, Kentsfield is nice ... but in the end I think Clovertown, will be the "holy-grail". I see a Mac-Pro dual-quad in my Tarrot cards

So many names with Intel....
Could someone please write a synopsis on all these new models? When, what chipset, dual socket or not? Please?

The clovertown macpro should be on the market soon (lol) - by the end of november. They are saying the 2,33 Ghz clovertown will not cost much more than the kentsfield macpro...

...that deserves mentioning again.

I got lost on the 51xx / D Class / Woodrow's / dual-dual core Xerox French onion chips and dips etc ......
Just set me up with the fast one.

One thing to consider: fsb speeds of 1ghz are mentioned now as a weak link when you have 4 cpu's utilizing the same bandwidth. Intel is supposedly pushing for higher fsb speeds to combat this - but that hasn't happened yet.
Also, when I look at the new speed test - the very fastest machine (anyone know how much those cost?) is not quite twice as fast as my conroe6400 - I think it's around 35min fastest, mine was done in 1:03. At that point its a money issue, I can by 2 conroe systems for 2500$ cdn.
Which (apart from merging time ) would render faster than the #1 listed 'macpro dual xeom 5160 dualcore 3.0ghz' machine - so which one costs more? Or more to the point how much will a quad core kentsfield cost?

I went with the Mac Pro partly because I can drop in the new Clovertowns later next year and max out my 8 core license on one machine. Network rendering with all the merging issues is just not there yet. You can't beat simplicity- less troubleshooting time means more rendering time.

I have plan to buy my new machine at the end of his year or early of next year.
but I don't know what kind of machine to buy because of so many kinds of chip and next generation.
My best wish is that Intel didn't change their socket type for a new chips.
