calculating field of view...

Guys, i am having trouble finding what angle ( field of view) to set in sketchup to match a urban view that was taken using a 6x7 camera (i assume bronika or pentax) using a 90 mm fixed lens..
I have tried various websites, but none tell me ( besides doing lots of formula) what basic rules could tell me what it means in degrees of view...
I assume a 50mm matches the normal 60° field of view of a human eye, but what about a 90mm and other lenses... Does it also varies depending on the camera type?

thnx for your expertise :)

Hi!

3dsmax translates:

90mm to 22,61987 deg
50mm to 39,59775 deg
31,17691mm to 60 deg

(All horizontal angle)

thnx :)

one question then, why is the common human eye field said to be around 58-60 degrees... and it translates usually to 50-58 mm focal length lens ( 24x36)... is a bit different from your numbers...no? I'll try them anyway!thnx

Nils,

Yes, the field of view for a given focal length, varies with the size of the film/sensor.

makes sense :)

yes i figured that out when i asked the question... :)
wider the film, wider the field of view since its a cross through the lens geometric :)
thnx :)

ps: anyone working for the stockholm library competition?

choose the right menu: ( camera / field of view) hit backspace and enter the value manually, or with a right click/press to decrease/increase it :)
