...looks intriguing...thanks for the heads-up, Max.

Interestingly, on their forum, I found this:
Michael Gibson wrote:MoI is brand new, it's not based on Rhino.
But I guess you could say that they have a bunch of "design DNA" in common since I did a bunch of the initial work on Rhino.

Thomas is fastly becoming the center of the CG universe !!
It's not based on Rhino, but they've decided to use 3dm's ! ......and somewhere there's an ivox4 using moi3d and rendering with Fry render and he says he doesn't know me ......... bah!

Hei, that should be rather exciting news, as Michael Gibson was chief designer of the original Rhino! He left, was it 98 or so McNeel for a job at a, err, very huge software company, probably to better the world a bit?

I thought i'd let you guys know that the very last free beta of Moi3D is out now so if you still wanna play with it for free use this opportunity because soon it's gonna cost you plenty of cash.
Go grab it and play all you can now with it while it's still free.

MOI/MODO/MAXWELL
the missing link.
Rhino translator reads and writes .3DM files and works with the Mac and PC versions of the modo 301 software.
Will it read Moi 3DM files? That could be the best combo, Moi for nerbs Modo for the rest.

Isn't it more than 195 ? sweet, but that's still like 195 more than i have.
yanada: It can read and write Moi files since Moi uses the exact same fileformat as Rhino does.

those new translators from Lux sure looks great!

No, I don't believe that it will read MoI 3DM files, because it only reads polygon mesh data from a .3dm file, and MoI only saves NURBS data to 3DMs, not any polygons.
But that's not really a problem - you can already reliably send data from MoI into Modo by exporting from MoI as LWO format.
Exporting by LWO actually gives you more capabilities as well, since LWO supports n-gons while polygon mesh objects inside of a .3dm file are limited to only having triangles and quads, not n-gons.

Moi is great as a 1.0 release because it can produce 3ds and obj files.... Even Acad and Revit can't do that! Michael Gibson is a great guy devoted to his future clients and has helped everyone a lot.... We are dynamically beta-testers of MoI and every one of us using MoI, more or less have added something to the product.... And Michael seems to enjoy that, many bugs and problems have been solved that way....
I think Moi has a great future....
