don't know, but after seeing how much those new max 9 features suck, I'd be happy with about anything.

it'll also be 64 bit, but apart from some stuff that should have been fixed/added a while back (like improved animation stuff), it seems that it all comes down to better viewport performance. pretty much what maya and xsi had for years now.

After buying 7.0 a couple months ago, I was kindof expecting a nice x.5 update at some point. I know 64bit is important, some of my scenes are dangerous to open :) But I suppose since I'm still running 32bit, theres no need to upgrade, just to get a poly bridge tool, and some edgeloop stuff.

Still, awaiting any videos from today. I'd happily change my mind....

Just installed it, it looks and feels just like Maya 7.... Nothing mind blowingly new :( Except for the new Mental ray and the fact that they have put back in the dwg importer which was taken out in 7.1

There is the option to install the 64 bit version..

I saw the new Maya and the new Max last night at Siggraph, 64 bit and new Mental ray 3.5 were the biggest new features, a lot of time was spent improving speed and performance. They were running a 12 million poly file and panning without pausing, they were also doing the same with a file about 6 million polys but animated. The new mental ray has a bunch of cool new improvements, they are making it less confusing for people to use, there are preset final gather solutions (draft, production, best), there are new pre made car paint shaders, a new set of pre made architectural shaders kind of like the "Architectural" shader in Max/Viz, and there is now a daylight system designed specifically for Mental ray. There is a lot I am forgetting but the big things with this release of both Max and Maya, seems to be integration and streamlining the pipline between those two products and motionbuilder. Thats all for now

The presets maybe in Max but as yet I haven't found them in Maya, or at least they are not intergrated as well as they are in Max. There are no Architectural shaders either, that I can find....hopefully someone will prove me wrong...

I haven't tried the Maya to Max translator yet but it sounds cool..
